Bicycle Component Redesign
This project was meant as an introduction to working with CAD tools like SolidWorks and took place in the course of the third semester. In order to get acquainted with the software, we were supposed to redesign an existing bicycle component. As the choices for bottle cages, that can hold beverage containers of different sizes are very limited, I set out to create a bottle cage that could adapt to almost any bottle or can size.
The mechanism behind it is fairly simple: The container is held in place by three legs, two of which are attached to snap rails, that can be varied in length. That way the radius can be easily manipulated.
The design is inspired by round and wavy, yet clear forms in order to give the bottle cage a dynamic, sporty look.
